blue skies
green grass
wispy clouds
the land of my ancestors
belongs to the earth
we are just the caretakers
now we have
hazy grey smog
concrete jungles
and smoke signals
we must protect
the water, soil, and air
we must protect our future

A lovely quadrille. It’s so heartbreaking how the earth is treated as if it can be replaced.

Title seems extreme (?) We are called to be care-takers of our world…excellent point!

Extreme in what sense? I’m Native American. I’m pointing out that the way we view the earth, as a native community, is vastly different than the viewpoint of our colonizers… who believe it’s okay to poison the land and water to make a few extra bucks.

Your people do have a better respect, even reverence, for the land. As farmers, my family must face these issues of taking care of precious resources. Are we to rewrite history and/or dismantle civilization?

History has already been “rewritten” to exclude any Native perspectives. I would hardly classify the colonization of the Americas as “civilization”… Native communities had civilization. Maybe you mean industrialization?
